Senior II Site Reliability Engineer (Canada)

Join us as a Senior II Site Reliability Engineer to design, build, and scale the infrastructure behind large-scale, cloud-native systems. This is a role for engineers who have moved beyond execution and are ready to operate at the intersection of technology and business, shaping client relationships, influencing outcomes, and multiplying the impact of the team around them.

At this level, you won't just lead infrastructure projects; you'll own them end-to-end, build trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders, and be a force multiplier across both our team and our clients' organizations. You'll bring clarity to complex, ambiguous problems and translate technical decisions into business outcomes that clients can see and feel.

We believe that when it comes to engineering, you get what you pay for. We want access to the top tier of talent, which is why we're in the top tier of compensation for engineers in Canada.

What you'll be doing

  • Own high-stakes client engagements from the initial project through to long-term relationship stewardship. You set the standard for what a great infrastructure engagement looks like.
  • Build strong "business partner" relationships with senior technical stakeholders on the client side, understanding their reliability and scalability requirements, translating them into technical outcomes, and making infrastructure decisions work for the business (not the other way around).
  • System Design: Design, implement, and operate highly available, high-performance, and scalable systems in cloud-native environments across complex, ambiguous problem spaces.
  • Kubernetes: Build and scale Kubernetes clusters and containerized workloads from the ground up.
  • Infrastructure-as-Code: Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code using tools like Terraform and Pulumi.
  • Databases and Services: Maintain and optimize databases and backend services (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis) to meet evolving needs.
  • Scalability and Observability: Lead initiatives on stateless architectures, CI/CD pipelines, and observability (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTSDB, Envoy) to enhance scalability, maintainability, and reliability.
  • Act as a multiplier for Bit Complete and for our clients. You elevate the engineers around you and leave every team better than you found it.
  • Engage broadly across the business, sharing your expertise, showing up as a leader, and contributing to Bit Complete's growth beyond your immediate project.
  • Mentor and grow teammates, providing technical direction and hands-on coaching, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Do the basics exceptionally well: clear communication, reliable delivery, proactive updates (sit-reps, timelines, etc.), and flagging issues early.

Your Background

  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience, with a track record of owning complex infrastructure projects end-to-end.
  • Client relationship depth: You've built trusted, long-term relationships with senior stakeholders, not just delivered to them. You know how to navigate client organizations and build confidence at the executive level.
  • Business-outcome orientation: You connect infrastructure decisions to business results. You've moved from "tech for tech's sake" to "tech for outcome."
  • SRE Expertise: A deep background in Site Reliability Engineering or a similar role, with hands-on experience scaling systems, contributing technical leadership, and designing distributed, cloud-native architectures.
  • Cloud and Containers: Experience with cloud infrastructure and container orchestration, including AWS or GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi.
  • Databases and Observability: Knowledge of databases and observability technologies such as PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTSDB, plus solid Linux, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Multiplier mentality: You make everyone around you better, teammates and clients alike. You've coached engineers and know how to cultivate a high-performing team culture.
  • Programming Experience: Experience coding in at least one modern language such as Python, Go, or JavaScript. We value technology generalists who are curious and comfortable learning new areas of the stack.
  • Strong communication skills: You excel at keeping everyone aligned, from detailed technical documentation to executive-level client conversations. Remote-first communication is second nature.
